• 61 percent of senior voters in California would support tougher testing for
seniors when they renew their driver's licenses at age 75.
• Drivers 75 and older are nearly three times more likely to be killed in a car
crash than those under the age of 65. The rate of risk for adults 75 and older
is almost equal to the risk of younger drivers ages 16 to 24.
• Seniors who do not drive are 15 percent less likely to see a doctor.
• In California, people age 70 or older must renew in person at a DMV field
office and take an eye and written test. They can be asked to take a driving
test.
• Doctors are required to report matters that may affect a person's ability to
drive. But family members have a responsibility as well. You can write the
