Boone is the SeniorSite expert on music from the '40s, '50s and '60s. He
sold more records in the '50s than any other artist except one - Elvis
Presley.
Besides breaking boundaries in pop music, he starred in 15 motion pictures,
wrote several best selling books and songs, hosted his own TV variety series -
The Chevy Showroom - and became a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Columbia
University.
With his wealth of entertainment knowledge, Pat offers recommendations on
music and movies that will bring back precious memories for you and your
family.
From the mid-thirties to late forties, the
Big Band sound was supreme. Alternating from the swinging to the sweet, these groups played in swank hotels and dance halls, showcasing such bandleaders as trombonist
Glenn Miller and clarinetist Benny Goodman.
THE ESSENTIAL GLENN MILLER (a two-disc set on BMG/RCA) provides an excellent summary of this most loved and dearly departed star.
You can enjoy Benny
Goodman's inspiring and lively beats on records like
16 MOST REQUESTED SONGS (Sony/Columbia) and B.G. IN HI-FI
(EMI/Blue Note).
Trombonist
Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra were also headliners, often backing vocalists like
Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Judy Garland. To enjoy Dorsey's fine musicianship, check out his
GREATEST HITS (BMG/RCA).
Harry James, the trumpet virtuoso, conducted his own popular orchestra with over three dozen Top 40 hits and helped to make
Doris Day a singing legend on his famous version of "Sentimental
Journey". His COMPLETE RECORDINGS (Sony/Columbia) and the 3-disc set of previously unreleased material on
V-DISC RECORDINGS (Collector's Choice Music) are a must.
Two great surveys of this exciting and momentous era, that feature such other artists as the
Andrews Sisters, Artie Shaw and Stan Kenton, are the 5-cd set
IN THE BIG BAND MOOD (Eclipse) and 4-cd set GETTING' SENTIMENTAL (Platinum Distribution). Why don't you get these and show your kids what real music is?
